A bit about me...
Hey! I'm Ed, a wedding photographer specialising in capturing genuine emotions & authentic moments. I cover Northumberland, Cumbria, Newcastle & beyond.
I've been a professional photographer for 8 years now, and in that time, I've covered over 220 weddings. I've also been incredibly blessed to have been voted 'NOEWA' North East Wedding Photographer of the Year for 2023, so I must be doing something right, at least!
Happily settled in Lanehead, just over the border into Weardale, with my gorgeous wife Tara, our daughter Charlea, & our menagerie of animals.
I have a weakness for fancy watches, Subaru's & tattoos.
When I'm not capturing smiles or something with an engine, you'll probably find me cruising, walking, ruining my hearing at a gig, or destroying my future job prospects in a tattoo studio by getting some ridiculous ink.. I suppose it's a good job I'm going self-employed!
Even at a young age, I have always had a keen eye for detail. I lost count of how many Pentax cameras my Dad had to replace because I kept 'borrowing' them and wearing them out/dropping them in rivers, mud, slamming them off tarmac.. think of any possible way for a child to break a camera - I probably did it!
I chose to pursue a career in photography after being on the fence about becoming a lawyer or chasing my dream job. Either I take a well paid job (that brings with it a LOT of stress and not much enjoyment), or do what I love (and hope people think I'm good enough at it to be paid for doing so!).
I flunked my A-levels.. so I decided to do what I love.
As a result, I emerged from Newcastle University with a maxed out student overdraft, plenty of debt, and a BA(Hons) Degree in Photography & Digital Media.
My 'style'...
Couples who get in touch with me quite often ask "what's your style?" Simply put.. I focus on providing a candid & natural 'documentary' style of coverage.
If you know that you want certain shots, that's cool! Not so comfortable being a model? I'll take the lead and help you both to relax in front of the camera.
The majority of people say "we're not really photo people.." basically meaning they're not professional models! I get that. I'm not either! So I totally understand how challenging it may be to feel truly at ease when there's a lens pointing at you.
I don't do awkward poses or forced smiles, that's just not my thing. They're forbidden.
My top priority is that you guys have as much time with your loved ones as possible, and as that happens, I'll capture as much of it as possible!
So, I do my best to remain invisible. However at the same time, I want you and your guests to be comfortable around me. This only happens if I interact, converse, and get to know you all - resulting in your images having a much more personal touch. At the end of the day, everyone at your wedding should be considered a friendly/familiar face - that includes us suppliers! I aim to have you chilled out & far too busy enjoying the company of those around you, that you completely forget about the camera.
I'm not just your photographer. I'm there to support you both & make sure everything is as perfect as you imagined it to be.
